Gloria Spears Dunbar

Gloria Spears Dunbar, a retired caregiver, entered eternal rest quietly at her home on Friday,

June 28, 2024. She was born in Gloster, Mississippi on October 13, 1932, she was 91 years old. Her parents were the late Limmie Williams and Eliza Brown Williams of Gloster. She met and married Edward Spears Jr., of Clinton, Louisiana, in 1952 and to this union six children were born Nathan E., Edward L., Patricia Ann, Isaiah (Ike), Timothy Lee., and Glenda Ann. They were married until Edward’s death in 1977.

Gloria Dean had an insatiable thirst for knowledge. When her children were older, she enrolled in Adult Education classes at Carter G. Woodson and received her GED in 1980 before becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant. She truly enjoyed caring for others, it was her passion and she instilled the love of service in her children. In 1986 Gloria met and married Cleveland Dunbar and they were married until his death in 1992.

Gloria lived and worked in New Orleans for over 50 years as a caregiver in local hospitals and with various home health agencies. Her last 15 years of her career were spent as an in-home private duty caregiver for a retired couple. Gloria loved good church, traveling, crocheting, quilting, and spending time with her family.

Gloria is survived by three children; Edward L., Ike, and Glenda Spears, 9 grandchildren, 8great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends, Friday, July 12, 2024 a visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at The Sixth Baptist Church 928 Felicity Street, New Orleans, LA 70130. A memorial service will follow beginning promptly at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, July 13, 2024 a visitation will be held from 9:00 am -11:00 am at the Homochitto Baptist Association Building at 2753 Antioch Perkins Road, Gloster, MS 39638.

The Homegoing Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Bishop-Elect Troy J. Johnson, Presiding
from Fresh Start Community Church in Houston, Texas Interment will be at Antioch Cemetery, Gloster, MS 39638. All are invited and welcome to attend. Services entrusted to Anderson Funeral Home, 352 W. Natchez Rd, Gloster. MS. 39638.
